All items, except for polystyrene, must all be small enough to fit inside a reusable shopping bag (about 31cm wide x 33cm high x 20cm deep) or a similar sized cardboard box. Each bag or box must weigh less than 10kg.
• Aluminium coffee pods
Place coffee pods in a clear soft plastic bag so they don’t leak.
• Batteries – small
Rechargeable, non-rechargeable, small handheld batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V and 6V), lantern, watch and button batteries.
• Blister packs – empty
These are the pill packets made of plastic and foil. We also accept empty, fully foil pill packets. If your blister pack came in a cardboard box, recycle the box separately in your yellow lid bin at home. No business quantities.
• Clothing, linen and textiles – good and bad condition
Clothing (including worn-out and torn items) swimwear, fashion accessories (hats, gloves, handbags, belts and jewellery), shoes, blankets, sheets and towels.
No underwear, socks, wet clothing, carpets, curtains, cushions, pillows, electric blankets or doonas.
• Electronics – small
Small appliances and personal items (kettles, toasters, irons, blenders, alarm clocks, radios, remotes, power tools, hairdryers, straighteners, electric toothbrushes, smartwatches, vapes) mobile phones and accessories (smartphones, landlines, chargers, headphones) small computers and accessories (laptops, tablets, e-readers, mouse, keyboards, game consoles, speakers, remotes, cameras, cables motes, power tools, DVDs/CDs/videotapes).
• Light bulbs/fluorescent tubes
Longer fluorescent tubes can stick out the top of your bag.
• Metal items – non-sharp
Metal handheld tools (hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches) metal coat hangers (bundled and tied together), keys and metal locks, metal kitchen items (pots, pans, baking trays, colanders) Items should be under 10kg. No sharp items.
• Polystyrene/styrofoam – rigid
From furniture, appliance or delivery packaging, (keep pieces whole with all tape/glue removed). We accept large pieces of polystyrene if they’re under 1m in size. Place polystyrene with your bags and secure any loose pieces so they don’t blow away.
No bendy or squishy items, such as foam wrap, foam sheets, packing peanuts or bean bag filling. No polystyrene with plastic lining, like some ice cream containers.
• Printer cartridges
Inkjet cartridges, laser cartridges, toner bottles, fuser and drum units, fax rolls and print heads.
• Toys
Children’s hard toys, in good working condition (batteries removed).
• X-ray films
X-ray, MRI, and CT scans/films (remove any paper envelopes, or paper scans and put them in your yellow lid bin).
• Batteries – large
Car batteries, power tool batteries, e-bike batteries. See the battery guide for where to recycle them.
• Boardgames and books
• Bulky household items
Furniture, whitegoods, mattresses, large electronics, workout machines, camping and sports equipment, bikes, prams. Book a free pick-up for bulky items.
• Cardboard
• Chemicals, gas bottles and hazardous items
Poisons, pesticides, household and pool cleaners, motor oil and cooking oil, fire extinguishers, gas bottles and smoke alarms. Recycle these at a Household Chemical CleanOut event.
• Coffee cups
Pop them in Simply Cups bins at 7-11 stores.
• Cosmetic containers
Take them to participating Mecca, Sephora or David Jones stores.
• Homeware
Mirrors, bric-a-brac and kitchenware.
• Medicines
Drop them off at any pharmacy.
• Metal items – sharp
Knives, scissors, utensils and other sharp metals.
• Paint and paint tins
Recycle these at a Household Chemical CleanOut event.
• Recycling items that go in your yellow lid bins at home.
Bottles, plastic containers, glass, cardboard, foil and cans.
• Soft plastics
Take them to Woolworths stores trialing soft plastics recycling.
• Textiles and bedding – unaccepted
Underwear and socks in any condition. Carpets, rugs, curtains, cushions, electric blankets, pillows and doonas/quilts/duvets.
